CHICAGO TEACHERS TO STRIKE AFTER TALKS FAIL

Chicago teachers
went on strike Monday for the first time in 25 years after their union and district officials failed to reach a contract agreement despite intense weekend negotiations that the union said were productive but still failed to adequately address issues such as job security and teacher evaluations.
The two sides were not far apart on compensation, but were on other issues, including health benefits — teachers want to keep what they have now — and a new teacher evaluation system based partly on students' standardized test scores, Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis said.
"This is a difficult decision and one we hoped we could have avoided," she said. "We must do things differently in this city if we are to provide our students with the education they so rightfully deserve."
More than 26,000 teachers and support staff were expected to hit the picket lines early Monday, while the school district and parents carried out plans for keeping nearly 400,000 students safe and occupied while classes remain empty in the coming days in the nation's third largest school district.
The district and union agreed in July on how to implement the longer school day, striking a deal to hire back 477 teachers who had been laid off rather than pay regular teachers more to work longer hours. That raised hopes the contract dispute would be settled soon, but bargaining continued on the other issues.
so no be only naija dey go strike ooo.........Lol

MOST EXPENSIVE APARTMENTS IN NEW YORK

While housing prices across the United States are still well below pre-crisis peaks, the very top of the Manhattan home market continues to shatter price records.

The $88 million sale of an apartment at 15 Central Park West in December set a record for the highest price ever paid for a Manhattan apartment. (Former Citigroup boss Sandy Weill once lived there.)

Just a few months later, a buyer broke the record, paying a reported $90 million for a duplex penthouse in One57, a building under construction at 157 West 57th Street.
Who will set the next record? It’s likely to be the buyer of one of the following properties, currently the most expensive listings in Manhattan, including one priced above $100 million — a line that no apartment in New York has ever crossed.

LEVI AJUONUMA SON STARTS PETITION AGAINST DANA AIR

According to dailytimes, Barely three months after the Dana plane crash that took the lives of all passengers aboard and some other persons on ground, the federal government restored the airline's licence. There has been a lot of condemnation since the lifting of the ban on the airline's activities, with some family members of victims saying they have not even finished burying their loved ones.

One of such family members is Obinna Ajuonuma, son of Levi Ajuonuma, NNPC spokesperson who died in the crash. Obinna lamented the situation, and has written a petition against Dana Air.

Speaking to Daily Times, he said: "I saw a picture of Peter Okoye at the surprise party he had for his girl, and I noticed that the MD of Dana Airlines was there as well. I can't believe he is bold enough to show his face partying while families of the deceased are planning burial ceremonies. Some families haven't even gotten the bodies of their loved ones, even what was promised to all the families haven't been received, that's how bad it is."

"This crash happened 3 months ago and all of a sudden, the Federal Government decided to free Dana just like that? The Ministry of Aviation is not even serious because there are no conclusions on the case; there was no court ruling, absolutely nothing.

It is very obvious the Minister of Aviation has more priorities than clearing up the Dana crash. Dana hasn't faced any kind of punishment, they were set free just like that; there was no public apology, no remorse shown, no assurance it won't happen again, nothing and the man is busy partying. Where is the respect for the affected? Where is the respect for the dead?

Is Bimbo Akintola Really single and still searching?

The 37 year old single and searching lady feels that marriage is a big deal and truly doesn’t want to be in a hurry to get in. She has been in several relationships but she has not found someone that she is comfortable to get married to.
These were her exact sentiments;
I will be 70 and still be single if I do not believe honestly that I have found the right person. We are all on earth as individuals. Some of us will marry; some of us will not. Some of us will have children, some of us will not. So I never judge myself according to other people’s standard.
Am only quoting her…..anyway the babe nah very fine babe, I wishhhhhhhhhhhhhh

JAY Z NOLONGER TOP EARNER NOW DR DRE

Is now about Six years that Dr. Dre was walking along the beach with Interscope Records chief Jimmy Iovine, pondering whether or not he should launch his own shoe line. "[Forget] sneakers," said Iovine. "Let's sell speakers!"
It might have been the best piece of advice the rapper-producer ever received. In 2008 he teamed with Iovine and a handful of other partners to launch Beats By Dr. Dre, which now sells more than half of the country's premium headphones ($100 and up). That's music to the ears of Dr. Dre, who collected $100 million pretax when handset maker HTC paid $300 million for a 51% stake in the company last year.
With $110 million in pretax earnings, Dr. Dre is this year's Hip-Hop Cash King—despite the fact that his long-awaited album, Detox, remains on the shelf. He's not the only one on the list who banks the bulk of his bucks outside the recording studio. Diddy ranks No. 2 with $45 million, thanks mostly to a share of profits from Diageo's Ciroc vodka; Jay-Z ranks third with $38 million, pulling in more than half his annual earnings from ventures including ownership stakes in cosmetics company Carol's Daughter, the Brookyln Nets and a joint venture with battery maker Duracell. Last year, Jay-Z topped the list with $37 million.
